Functions

1.
Movement – Muscle tissues, contraction causing movement and move materials trough out the body, blood, food to digestive, and air.
2. Warmth - Creates heat as they contract.
3. Posture - Maintains posture stabilizing joints.

Muscle Properties

    1. Ability to contract - Forcing contraction of fibers in cells to shorten.
    2. Ability to be stretched - Muscles stretch across joints (muscle joint) to link one bone with another and work in groups to respond to the nerve impulses.
    3. Ability to respond to a stimulus - Muscle cells are capable of contracting longitudinally in response to nervous stimulation. The muscle cells contain small contractile strands of protein (myofibrils). They contract when stimulated, and return to their original state as soon as the stimulation ceases. Muscle fibers and muscle cells are distinguished according to their make up.

    Muscle Types

    1. Skeletal (Striped) - There are nearly 650 skeletal muscles in the human body attaching to a bone and connecting a joint to enable us to move our limbs.
    2. Smooth - Smooth muscle is found in our internal organs: in our digestive system, our blood vessels, our bladder, respiratory organs, and in a female uterus. Smooth muscle can stretch and maintain tension over extended periods and are involuntary muscles, being controlled automatically by the nervous system.
    3. Cardiac (Myocardium) - Cardiac muscle are found only in the heart. It stretches like the smooth muscle and contract like the skeletal (striped) muscle, finally it is a involuntary twitch muscle doing only short single contractions.
